Freya Wilcox & The Howl
Freya Wilcox grew up in regional Australia and has been playing guitar since she was 10. Unsatisfied by a life of working odd jobs and busking on stoops in dusty mining camps, Freya moved to New York at the age of 19 and found herself a small apartment in Bushwick. She quickly began booking small, local shows for herself and, as fate would have it, a couple of Long Island punks walked into Manhattan’s darkest dive bar one night to find an Aussie blues singer howling from behind a beat up guitar. Shortly after, one of NYC’s most unique new punk bands was born … Freya Wilcox & The Howl.
In May of 2015 the band released their first EP, Bareknuckle Love, which showcased Freya’s grated ironies and violent bluesy riffs – sitting right at home atop a rhythm section of equally sarcastic and talented twenty-somethings, spreading songs about lying to lovers, falling for assholes and fighting for all the wrong things.
Ramping up to the release of their debut LP in the fall of 2016, the band is releasing a split single with Oh My Snare on For the Love of Punk Records on August 19, 2016 and will be touring extensively.
